The Lock, Maidenhead

This is another photograph of Boulter’s Lock at Maidenhead. The lock keeper’s cottage is on the left bank. Possibly members of the lock keeper’s family are among the people standing on the footbridge and banks of the river. “In the estimation of many, the stretch between Cookham Lock and Boulter’s Lock, something under two miles, was the most beautiful portion of the Thames.” (A Tale of the Thames, by Joseph Ashby-Sterry, available as an e-book.)
