Charles Tyrwhitt Ricardo

Albert and Charlotte Ricardo's only child, Charles (“Charlie”) Tyrwhitt Ricardo, was born on 30 December 1861. He went to Eton, and he loved the sea, sailing, and cats; such that he owned, at one time or another, boats named Tigress, Tiger Cat, Catspaw, Kitten, Catapult and Catalone. He was an early influential member of the Bembridge Sailing Club. He re-named his home in Bembridge, on the Isle of Wight, Catlands. He never married. He died on the Isle of Wight on 5 January 1941, aged 79.

Charles Ricardo was clearly an active sailor with many entries in race reports and donating at least one race trophy. There are many references to him in The Yachtsman magazine and for someone particularly interested it would be worthwhile delving through the magazine in more detail. It is available from the Association of Yachting Historians. (James Pratt email message to Myrna Goldware, September 8, 2020.)
